28-6-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s two-day visit to Laos is expected to bolster bilateral relations between the two countries. The Malaysian prime minister arrived in the capital city of Vientiane on Monday, accompanied by his wife and a delegation, following an invitation from his Lao counterpart Sonexay Siphandone.
On Tuesday, the two leaders held talks to explore ways to enhance relations between Malaysia and Laos, and to increase cooperation on the economic front. The discussions were aimed at finding new avenues for collaboration and promoting mutual interests.
During his first official visit to the country, the Malaysian prime minister also paid a courtesy call to Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, as reported by Lao National Radio on Tuesday.
The Lao president appreciated the Malaysian prime minister’s visit and his meeting with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, and spoke highly of the friendship and cooperation between Laos and Malaysia, which have flourished over the years. He commended the successful implementation of numerous activities and regular exchanges of visits at various levels between the two countries.
The Lao president urged the Malaysian prime minister to continue supporting human resource development in Laos and requested both prime ministers to promote cooperation in various fields. Anwar informed the Lao president that his visit aimed to further strengthen friendship and sound cooperation between Malaysia and Laos.
