17-9-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has arrived in Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China, to participate in the 20th China-Asean Expo (CAExpo) 2023 and the China-Asean Business and Investment Summit (CABIS), scheduled to take place from September 16 to 19.
Anwar’s aircraft touched down at Nanning’s Wuxu International Airport at 3:54 AM local time. He was joined by Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.
Upon arrival, the Prime Minister received a warm welcome from Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin, the charge d’affaires of the Malaysian Embassy in Beijing, Sanmugan Subramaniam, and Malaysian consul-general in Nanning, Ahmad Phadil Mohamed Ismail. Also present to receive Anwar were the Chinese ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, and member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Wenhao.
In his capacity as Finance Minister, Anwar is leading a Malaysian delegation to the CAExpo, where he is slated to deliver remarks at the opening ceremony of both the CAExpo and CABIS, alongside Chinese Premier Li Qiang and other ASEAN leaders, including representatives from Laos and Vietnam. He will also preside over the inauguration of the Malaysian Pavilion at CAExpo.
Following these events, Anwar is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting and luncheon with Premier Li. During this meeting, the leaders will delve into the status of Malaysia-China bilateral relations and exchange perspectives on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister is expected to engage with major Chinese corporations after his meeting with Li.
This visit marks Anwar’s second trip to China as Prime Minister, following his inaugural visit in March of this year, which included stops in Beijing and Hainan. During his first visit, Malaysia secured an impressive RM170 billion worth of investment commitments from the world’s second-largest economy.
