21-3-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Authorities in Petaling Jaya were left astounded when they stumbled upon an abandoned suitcase filled with Malaysian Ringgit notes at a local parking lot. The police are now seeking the rightful owner of the suitcase, which contained an estimated RM500,000 (S$141,973) in RM50 and RM100 denominations.
On March 20, a security guard in his 30s, conducting his routine rounds at the fourth-floor parking lot of a shopping mall, made the unexpected discovery. Intrigued by the suitcase, he opened it and was amazed to find it overflowing with money. Without hesitation, he immediately informed the police about the finding, as reported by Sin Chew Daily.
According to Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, who revealed the details during a press conference, the unlocked suitcase contained an approximate sum of RM500,000. The police were unable to identify the individual who left the suitcase behind since the shopping mall only had CCTV cameras installed at its entrance and exit points.
When questioned about the authenticity of the banknotes, Hussein stated that they were likely genuine. However, to confirm their legitimacy, the currency will be verified by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). In the meantime, the police are urging the owner to come forward and claim the suitcase, providing proof of ownership at the Petaling Jaya police district.
