20-6-2024 (SINGAPORE) A Malaysian man was fined S$1,200 (RM4,160) by a Singapore court today for squirting a mixture of his own urine and flour on an unsuspecting woman. The 31-year-old Tan Jun Hao pleaded guilty to a charge of using criminal force on the 26-year-old victim, in a misguided attempt to initiate conversations with women.
The incident, which took place on April 9, unfolded as the victim was walking along an overhead bridge at the Nicoll Highway MRT station. According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Yap Jia Jun, Tan had concocted a plan to attract women’s attention by alerting them to stains on their clothing, using the urine-flour mixture he had prepared and stored in a plastic bottle.
Tan had been tailing the victim at the MRT station before executing his plan, squirting the foul mixture onto her dress as she walked by. Shockingly, instead of stopping to inform the victim of the stain and initiate a conversation as intended, Tan brazenly walked past her, leaving the woman unaware of the incident.
“He wanted to create opportunities for him to talk to these women,” Yap stated, revealing the disturbing motive behind Tan’s actions. “He had also prepared red dye at home, which he intended to mix into the liquid.”
The court heard that Tan had admitted to committing similar offenses on two other occasions, targeting unknown women in the same manner. However, the details of how authorities apprehended Tan remain unclear.
The case has sparked outrage and disbelief among the public, with many questioning the mental state of the perpetrator and the potential risks posed by such actions. Experts have expressed concerns about the psychological implications of Tan’s behavior, suggesting that it could be indicative of deeper issues that require professional intervention.
While Tan’s motives may have been rooted in a desire for social interaction, his chosen methods were not only illegal but also deeply disrespectful and potentially traumatizing for the victims. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fostering healthy social skills and seeking appropriate channels for human connection.
