23-6-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) The Prime Minister’s Office (Law and Institutional Reform) expressed utmost confidence in Malaysia’s legal team to win the lawsuit brought by descendants of the Sulu Sultanate in a Spanish court, citing clear facts and evidence in favor of Malaysia.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Datuk Seri Aishah, the Deputy Minister in the Attorney General’s Chambers, and Malaysia’s Ambassador to Spain, Datuk Akma, have arrived in Spain to meet with the Malaysian legal team.
The Malaysian legal team, which includes Mendoza from Spain, Gerard from France, Fiona from the UK, and a public relations negotiator also from the UK, is currently awaiting the verdict of the Hague Court on the Sulu Sultanate’s claim for compensation next Tuesday (27th) in Spain.
“Regardless of the judgment, the Malaysian government will steadfastly maintain its position and continue to ensure the protection of Malaysia’s sovereignty in this case,” stated Aishah.
She also appealed to all Malaysians to continue supporting the country in defending this issue and to pray for Malaysia’s victory and sovereignty.
Eight descendants of the Sulu Sultanate initiated arbitration proceedings in a Spanish court to claim compensation for land in Sabah, alleging that it was leased to a British trading company by their ancestors in 1878.
