29-11-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Malaysian artiste Queenzy Cheng, formerly a member of the popular girl group M-Girls, has tragically passed away at the age of 37. The news of her untimely demise was announced in a heartfelt statement posted on Cheng’s Facebook and Instagram pages on Tuesday (Nov 28).
According to a report by China Press, Cheng suffered from a brain aneurysm, leading to her sudden passing. Local artiste Chai Zi, who was present during the incident, revealed that Cheng collapsed while filming for the social media channel Squad Sekawan.
Chai Zi shared that they had arrived at Damansara in the morning and began filming around 8:30am after having breakfast. Cheng appeared to be in good health at that time. However, as they were preparing to film the second episode at approximately 10:30am, Cheng complained of dizziness, nausea, and a headache.
Concerned about her condition, the staff on set called for an ambulance after Cheng vomited. Despite still being conscious, Cheng provided the staff members with the passcode to her mobile phone so they could contact her boyfriend for her medical records.
Chai Zi, who co-founded Squad Sekawan with Cheng and a few other friends, recounted the events, stating that staff members with first aid knowledge attended to her. However, Cheng lost consciousness while still breathing. Her heart rate increased significantly, and soon after, her lips, hands, and feet turned purple.
Although the ambulance arrived promptly within five minutes, Cheng could not be revived despite efforts to resuscitate her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sin Chew Daily reported that Cheng’s funeral will be held on Saturday (Dec 2), allowing friends, family, and fans to pay their final respects.
Numerous local celebrities, including former M-Girls members Crystal Ong and Angeline Khoo, took to social media to express their condolences. Khoo shared a photo of herself traveling to Cheng’s hometown in Perlis to bid her farewell, while Ong posted a picture of herself with Cheng on her Instagram Story.
Singer Nick Chung and actress Mandy Chen reminisced about the memorable moments they shared with Cheng, paying tribute to her. Actress Joey Leong expressed her grief on Instagram, recalling Cheng’s talkative nature, infectious smile, and kind spirit. She lamented that she hadn’t had the opportunity for a lengthy conversation with Cheng before her passing.
Queenzy Cheng gained recognition for her renditions of Chinese New Year songs and rose to fame when she joined M-Girls in 2000 alongside Koo, Ong, and Cass Chin.
