26-9-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has apprehended a female business proprietor in her 30s on charges of bribing a senior government official. Sources reveal that the suspect allegedly offered a luxurious car worth RM200,000 to an officer of a ministry in exchange for securing a lucrative RM87 million project.
According to insider information, the bribe in the form of the high-end vehicle was provided at an undisclosed date earlier this year. The intention behind this gesture was to entice the official into awarding a five-year contract for the management and maintenance of the ministry’s facilities. It is worth noting that the project’s allocation was approved in 2021.
Sources further disclosed that the suspect was summoned for questioning at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya. Subsequently, at approximately 6:50 p.m., she was arrested for further investigation into the matter. To facilitate the ongoing inquiry, the Putrajaya Magistrates’ Court issued a four-day remand order on Tuesday (Sept 26) to detain the suspect.
When approached for comment, MACC’s senior director of special operations, Datuk Tan Kang Sai, confirmed the arrest. He revealed that the suspect is being probed for alleged corruption under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which deals with offenses related to bribery.
