15-4-2024 (HONG KONG) For those contemplating an early morning jog, here’s some motivation straight from Malaysian actor Jack Tan, renowned for his role in the critically acclaimed 2023 movie Abang Adik.
Taking to Instagram yesterday (April 14), Tan shared a delightful encounter he had while out for a run in Hong Kong, where he’s presently engaged in work. “If you climb many mountains, you’ll eventually meet Fat Kor (older brother Fat)!” he quipped in his caption, alluding to a Chinese idiom cautioning against taking too many risks.
Tan, aged 33, was pleasantly surprised to cross paths with veteran actor Chow Yun Fat during his jogging session. Expressing his disbelief at the serendipitous encounter, he extended gratitude to film art director Man Lim Chung for facilitating introductions to numerous industry seniors during their runs.
In an interview with ET Today, Tan recounted Lim Chung’s cryptic hint the day before about encountering a “special guest” during their run. It was only upon arriving at the location that he realized the identity of their running companion.
Reflecting on the experience, Tan shared insights into their run with Fat Kor, noting Yun Fat’s attentive approach inquiring about each runner’s heart rate and offering advice on pacing and endurance.
Despite Yun Fat’s legendary status in the film industry, Tan highlighted that their conversations revolved around running rather than movies. He commended the 68-year-old’s remarkable fitness level and generous demeanor in sharing running tips.
The highlight for Tan was Yun Fat’s invitation for future runs together, a gesture that left him elated.
In the movie Abang Adik, Tan portrays the role of Adik (younger brother) opposite Wu Kang-ren’s character, Abang (older brother), a deaf-mute. Set in Malaysia, the film follows their journey as undocumented orphans, with Abang aspiring for a better life through acquiring genuine identity cards while Adik becomes entangled in a life of crime.
Tan’s stellar performance earned him nominations for Best Supporting Actor at prestigious awards ceremonies, including the 60th Golden Horse Awards and the 2024 Asian Film Awards. Although he faced stiff competition, Tan’s portrayal left a lasting impression on audiences and critics alike.
