27-11-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a bid to mark the forthcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim declared on Sunday that Malaysia will extend a 30-day visa-free travel privilege to Chinese citizens starting December 1 this year.
The announcement was made during Anwar’s address at the annual congress of the People’s Justice Party, of which he serves as the president. The move is a diplomatic gesture to commemorate the half-century milestone in the nations’ diplomatic ties.
While unveiling the decision, Anwar assured that stringent security measures would be implemented during the visa-free travel period to screen visitors and tourists. Further details regarding the visa exemption process will be disclosed by the Minister of Home Affairs shortly, as reported by the Malaysian national news agency, Bernama.
Expressing gratitude, Anwar also acknowledged China’s reciprocal decision to initiate a unilateral visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from Malaysia.
