30-7-2023 (GENEVA) Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh, the acclaimed Malaysian actress, took to Instagram to delight her fans by sharing a series of photos from her intimate wedding ceremony with Jean Todt on July 27. The couple’s union has been 19 years in the making, and they finally exchanged vows in the presence of close family and friends.
The 60-year-old Ipoh-born actress posted four heartwarming photos, one of which captured a touching moment from their first night as a married couple. In the caption, she expressed her gratitude to their loving “families” who have supported them throughout their journey together, with a promise of many more cherished moments to come.
One of the photos she shared had a nostalgic touch, featuring a poster from her famous Bond film, “Tomorrow Never Dies.” The poster showcased a clever superimposition of Jean Todt’s face on that of Pierce Brosnan’s, along with the inscription, “Love Never Dies, A Jean Todt and Michelle Yeoh production, Thursday, July 27, 2023.”
The news of Todt and Yeoh’s wedding was broken by Brazillian F1 racer Felipe Massa on his Instagram account on Friday, July 28. The joyous occasion took place in the picturesque city of Geneva, Switzerland, adding an extra touch of romance to their already fascinating love story.
Interestingly, Yeoh’s own mother, Datin Janet Yeoh, revealed in an interview with China Press that she was taken by surprise when she learned about her daughter’s secret marriage. She shared that during their last phone call two weeks ago, Michelle didn’t mention anything about the impending nuptials, leading Janet to believe her daughter had something special planned.
“My daughter would always call me, but she didn’t inform me (about the marriage) when we were on the phone two weeks ago. Maybe she wants to surprise me!” the 84-year-old beamed while expressing her hope that her daughter and new son-in-law would soon return to Malaysia for a wedding reception with their loved ones.
The love story between Jean Todt, a 77-year-old former motor racing executive, and the Oscar-winning actress began back in 2004. They first crossed paths in Shanghai, China, on June 4, and after a whirlwind romance of one-and-a-half months, Todt proposed to Michelle Yeoh on July 26 of the same year.
Despite their long and devoted relationship, tying the knot proved to be a logistical challenge for the couple. In 2021, Yeoh humorously remarked to The Guardian that they had been “threatening” to get married for a long time, sometimes jokingly questioning whether they had already done so. However, the process of obtaining the necessary paperwork had been time-consuming due to Todt’s Swiss residency and the country’s meticulous requirements.
While Yeoh had previously stated that the significance of a marriage certificate was not as crucial to her, it held deep meaning for Jean Todt. She revealed in an interview with Los Angeles Times in November 2022, “A piece of paper doesn’t change it for me. But it means a lot to Jean, so it means a lot to me.”
