25-8-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Malaysia’s ambitious East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, a joint venture with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), has achieved a significant breakthrough with the completion of 25 tunnels, as announced by Mohd Zuki Ali, Chairman of Malaysia Rail Link (MRL), the project’s owner.
Mr. Ali expressed his satisfaction, stating, “The breakthrough of 25 tunnels, including 21 in Sections A and B, showcases MRL and CCCECRL’s engineering prowess and modern tunneling technology.” This announcement came during a ceremony held on Friday to mark the achievement.
He further disclosed that the ECRL project, spanning four Malaysian states, has made impressive progress, with completion standing at 48.77 percent.
Kong Qi, Managing Director of CCCECRL, reiterated their commitment to accelerate the project’s advancement. “Our team is dedicated to applying advanced construction technology and leveraging our experience on this project. Simultaneously, we are collaborating with MRL to stimulate economic growth within the local community and strengthen connections,” he stated.
The ECRL undertaking involves the construction of 40 tunnels, connecting the Malaysian states of Kelantan and Selangor. This rail link is poised to significantly enhance connectivity, fostering more balanced economic growth by linking the less-developed east coast with the economic hub on the west coast.
