28-10-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Malaysian authorities have made significant strides in their battle against international drug trafficking syndicates, with a recent series of operations yielding a substantial haul. On Saturday, officials announced the seizure of 370.8 kilograms of drugs, with an estimated street value of 25.5 million ringgit (approximately 5.34 million U.S. dollars). These operations, conducted in the state of Johor over the course of October, have dealt a significant blow to the illicit drug trade in the region.
Deputy Director-General of the Customs Department, Sazali Mohamad, disclosed the details of these successful operations, shedding light on the scale of the drug seizures. The largest and most noteworthy seizure in this series of operations involved an astonishing 269.75 kilograms of ecstasy pills. These pills, valued at 19.8 million ringgit (around 4.14 million U.S. dollars), were seized, highlighting the seriousness of the narcotics issue in the area.
What makes these seizures particularly significant is the fact that the mode of smuggling was virtually identical in all three cases. The drugs were clandestinely imported from Europe through air freight, making their way to Malaysia.
