20-10-2023 (YANGON) In a significant operation targeting drug trafficking, the authorities in Myanmar have confiscated a substantial amount of illicit substances and apprehended five individuals. The Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) reported that a total of 38.82 kilograms of Happy Water, along with 5,000 ecstasy pills and 2,200 caffeine tablets, were seized in the Yangon region and Shan state.
On Thursday, the CCDAC disclosed that three suspects were detained in connection with the case after the police acted upon a tip-off. They successfully confiscated 38.82 kilograms of Happy Water and 2,200 caffeine tablets in various townships including Mingala Taungnyunt, Bahan, and Yankin in the Yangon region on October 14.
Furthermore, the anti-narcotic police also seized 5,000 stimulant tablets in Tachileik township of Shan state on the same day, leading to the arrest of two additional suspects. The value of the confiscated narcotic drugs has been estimated to exceed 1.36 billion kyats, which is approximately 647,619 U.S. dollars.
All suspects involved in these drug-related activities have been charged in accordance with Myanmar’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
