22-1-2025 (KUALA LUMPUR) Former Malaysian premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s sons have declared combined assets exceeding RM1 billion to the nation’s anti-corruption watchdog, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s chief commissioner revealed yesterday.
In a significant development in the ongoing investigation, Tan Sri Azam Baki disclosed that both Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir and Mirzan Mahathir personally submitted their asset declarations. Mokhzani’s total declared assets amounted to approximately RM1 billion, comprising personal holdings of RM360 million alongside various shares and other assets, after accounting for liabilities.
Meanwhile, Mirzan’s declaration showed assets totalling RM246.2 million, including personal holdings valued at RM120 million. “Both individuals have fully cooperated with our investigation officers, providing comprehensive declarations of their assets and shareholdings,” Baki stated during a press briefing in Putrajaya.

The MACC chief expressed satisfaction with the brothers’ compliance, though he emphasised that investigations remain active. The declaration marks a crucial phase in the anti-graft body’s broader inquiry into high-profile political figures and their families.
In a related matter, Baki provided an update on the investigation into the late Tun Daim Zainuddin’s financial affairs, noting that the probe continues to examine assets held by the former finance minister’s family, including those potentially located overseas. “We have received intelligence from international authorities indicating the existence of foreign assets,” he revealed.
The MACC faces jurisdictional challenges in tracing these international holdings, which may require complex legal procedures for asset recovery across different countries. This development follows the recent posthumous acquittal of Daim, who passed away at 86, on charges of failing to declare his assets.
