29-6-2023 (NEW YORK) Madonna, the iconic popstar, was rushed to a hospital in New York on Saturday after being found unresponsive. Her manager, Guy Oseary, confirmed that the 64-year-old singer had been diagnosed with a serious bacterial infection and was intubated overnight in the ICU. Oseary revealed the news on Instagram, adding that Madonna’s hotly-anticipated 40th anniversary tour would be postponed due to her medical struggles.
Oseary reassured fans that Madonna was expected to make a full recovery, and her health is improving. However, she is still under medical care. According to Page Six, Madonna’s eldest daughter, Lourdes Leon, remained by her side throughout her hospitalization.
Sources close to the singer revealed that Madonna had been rehearsing six days a week for her 84-date Celebration tour, which was due to begin in Vancouver, Canada, on July 15. Madonna’s perfectionism had been driving everyone up the wall, but she was in incredible shape, and her body was sick, said the sources.
It is unclear when Madonna will be able to commence the international tour. Oseary promised to share more details as soon as they have them, including a new start date and rescheduled shows.
Madonna’s children have yet to publicly comment on their mother’s condition. Lourdes shared an image of herself on Instagram Stories just hours before Oseary shared the news of Madonna’s medical scare.
Bacterial infections can affect many different parts of the body, including the skin, lungs, brain, and blood, according to the Cleveland Clinic. They note that common bacterial diseases include UTIs, food poisoning, STIs, and some skin, sinus, and ear infections. The most common form of treatment is a course of antibiotics.
Madonna’s Celebration Tour was slated to run from July 15, 2023, to January 30, 2024. It would be her 12th concert tour, visiting cities in North America and Europe with 84 shows anticipated.
