26-5-2023 (Kuala Lumpur) Malaysia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) announced on Friday that it is currently conducting an investigation into corruption allegations related to state oil firm Petronas and an unnamed international oil and gas company.
In a statement, the MACC revealed that Petronas has been fully cooperative in the investigation, which centers around a project valued at 399 million ringgit ($89.97 million) in the state of Sarawak.
Although the commission did not disclose the specific details of the project or the identity of the international oil firm under investigation, it emphasized Petronas’ collaboration in the matter.
When approached for comment, Petronas did not provide an immediate response.
The MACC acknowledged that it has discovered “several weaknesses in practices, systems, and work procedures” during the course of its probe.
Consequently, the commission has recommended improvements to the standard operating procedures as a preventive measure against similar incidents in the future.
The MACC called upon individuals or entities possessing relevant information regarding the case to step forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
