12-10-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Louis Koo, a highly acclaimed celebrity in the entertainment industry, may be unfamiliar to those who didn’t grow up watching Hong Kong films and dramas. This became evident when the owner of a hotpot restaurant in Kuala Lumpur took to the social media platform Xiaohongshu to share an interesting encounter involving her Gen Z staffers.
The owner revealed that her young employees had informed her about a “table of VIP guests” who had spent over RM2,000 (S$577) on their meal the previous night. Intrigued by the extravagant expenditure, she decided to review the restaurant’s CCTV footage. To her surprise, she discovered that her younger colleagues were referring to none other than Louis Koo, who is 52 years old.
Louis Koo, accompanied by fellow Hong Kong actors Raymond Wong, Chrissie Chau, and Cheung Siu Fai, had dined at the Kuala Lumpur restaurant over the weekend. The actors are currently in the country for the filming of their new movie, “Behind The Shadows.”
The restaurant owner shared a photo of Koo from that evening and expressed her surprise, writing, “Isn’t this Louis Koo? Why is it that those born after the year 2000 can’t recognize him? Is there really a generational gap between us?” Netizens chimed in, commenting that most youngsters these days are more familiar with K-pop stars and social media influencers.
Some younger individuals admitted that they wouldn’t have been able to identify the actor if their parents hadn’t introduced them to Koo’s previous projects. With over 100 credits to his name, Louis Koo has enjoyed a highly successful showbiz career since signing with TVB in 1993.
He gained recognition for his performance in the 1995 drama “The Condor Heroes 95” and has since starred in popular shows such as “Detective Investigation Files IV” (1999), “Drug War” (2012), and “The White Storm” (2013).
In 2018, Koo received the Best Actor prize at the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards, 12th Asian Film Awards, and 12th Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild Award for his outstanding performance in the 2017 action flick, “Paradox.”
