5-3-2025 (BANGKOK) The body of a solo female traveller was found on the sands of Kata Beach in Phuket yesterday afternoon. The woman, believed to be approximately 50 years of age and of European or possibly Russian origin, was discovered lying face down on a beach towel, clad in swimwear.
Local authorities were alerted to the grim find at approximately 1:20 pm when a beach attendant noticed the woman’s unusual positioning and alarmingly discoloured skin. Upon closer inspection, the staff member realised something was terribly amiss and immediately summoned emergency services.
“We often see holidaymakers dozing on the sand, but something didn’t seem right,” remarked Sarawut Sombun, one of the lifeguards stationed at Kata Beach. “When one of our colleagues approached to check on her welfare, they noticed her skin had taken on a bluish tint, suggesting she had been dead for some time.”
A substantial police contingent, headed by Superintendent Khun Det Na Nong Khai of Karon Police Station, promptly arrived at the scene. The response team included Deputy Inspector Sanya Suksawat, Deputy Superintendent of Investigation Wiwat Chamnankit, alongside officers from both the Tourist Police and the Tourist Assistance Centre.
Preliminary examinations revealed peculiar red rashes across the woman’s back and legs, though investigators found no immediate evidence of a struggle or physical assault. Forensic specialists from Vachira Phuket Hospital conducted an initial assessment on site before transporting her remains to the hospital’s mortuary for comprehensive post-mortem analysis.
The circumstances surrounding this tragic incident remain shrouded in mystery. According to beach staff, the woman appears to have been holidaying alone, with no companions or family members in evidence. Authorities are working diligently to establish her identity and nationality, though information remains scant at present.
