14-7-2023 (LOS ANGELES) Authorities have confirmed that Lisa Marie Presley, the singer, songwriter, and heir of Elvis Presley, died from complications arising from bariatric surgery she underwent several years ago. The 54-year-old’s death on January 12 was ruled as natural causes due to the effects of a small bowel obstruction.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office released an autopsy report on Thursday, shedding further light on the circumstances surrounding Presley’s death. The report stated that the complication she experienced is a known risk associated with bariatric surgery, a weight loss procedure typically performed when other methods have proven ineffective or when a person has a serious medical condition, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Presley passed away at a Los Angeles hospital, where she had been taken by paramedics in response to a 911 call reporting a woman in cardiac arrest at her home. At the time, no public information was available regarding the cause of the medical emergency. The autopsy report revealed that she had been experiencing stomach pain earlier in the day.
Following her death, Presley was laid to rest at a funeral held on January 22 at Graceland, the iconic home where she resided with her father during her childhood. Graceland has since become a museum, a popular tourist attraction, and a shrine for Elvis fans.
Lisa Marie Presley is survived by her three daughters: 34-year-old Daisy Jones & The Six actor Riley Keough, and 15-year-old twins Harper and Finley Lockwood. Sadly, her son Benjamin Keough passed away in 2020.
Initially, it appeared that a contentious legal battle would ensue over Presley’s estate. Just four days after her funeral, her mother, Priscilla Presley, filed court documents challenging a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie Presley’s living trust that removed Priscilla and a former business manager as trustees, replacing them with her two eldest children. However, Priscilla Presley and Riley Keough, who is now the sole trustee, reached a settlement in May, resolving the dispute.
On a positive note, Riley Keough received her first Emmy nomination on Wednesday for her role in “Daisy Jones & The Six” in the category of best actress in a limited series or TV movie, marking a significant achievement in her acting career.
