16-10-2023 (VIENTIANE) Laos and Singapore have reinforced their partnership in trade and investment during a significant visit by a high-level Singaporean delegation to Laos.
Lao Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Thongphane Savanphet, warmly received Singapore’s Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Albert Chua, and his delegation during their visit to Laos on October 12-13, as reported by Laopattana on Monday.
The inaugural Laos-Singaporean Bilateral Consultation meeting, co-chaired by both sides, took place in Vientiane on October 12.
In the meeting, the Lao delegation urged the Singaporean government to promote increased investment by Singaporean businesses in Laos. Laos expressed its openness to Singaporean investment in various sectors, including agriculture, green energy, tourism, and hospitality.
The two parties reviewed the progress achieved in their collaborative efforts in environmental protection, water resource management, climate change, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Furthermore, they engaged in discussions on regional and global developments, exchanging views on pertinent matters of mutual interest.
The visit and bilateral consultation signify the commitment of Laos and Singapore to foster closer ties and explore avenues for enhanced economic cooperation.
