9-10-2023 (HANOI) Landslides and flash floods wreaked havoc in northern Vietnam from October 6 to October 8, resulting in the loss of three lives and leaving one person missing, as reported by the National Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control on Monday.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the three individuals who tragically lost their lives in the landslides were from Yen Bai Province, while the missing person hails from Thai Nguyen Province.
The region experienced continuous heavy rainfall, leading to widespread flooding, erosion, and significant disruptions in traffic along various national highways and provincial roads. Furthermore, hundreds of houses were submerged by the rising waters.
Vietnam has been grappling with natural disasters, particularly floods and landslides, which have claimed the lives of 98 people and left 103 others injured in the first nine months of this year, according to data from the country’s General Statistics Office.
