14-8-2023 (BEIJING) In a shocking incident, a landlord named Xie in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China, was left astounded when entering a tenant’s apartment that hadn’t been cleared of garbage for over a year. Disturbing footage captured on August 10 reveals the female tenant sitting amidst a pile of trash, engrossed in her phone, while another woman attempts to clean up the mess.
The appalling sight shows an overwhelming accumulation of trash, reaching the height of the windows. Xie, the landlord, described the stench emanating from the garbage as the worst he had ever encountered, even causing him to feel nauseous.
The footage only scratches the surface of the filth as Xie explained that he had already begun cleaning some of it before capturing the grim scene.
After five hours of cleaning, the apartment was finally restored to a clean state. The tenant was given a few days to find alternative accommodation along with some financial compensation. She had been sleeping in the same cramped space seen in the video while residing in the apartment.
This incident echoes a similar case in the UK last year, where a landlord evicted one of his tenants known for their hoarding habits, discovering snakes, scorpions, and spiders amidst the “horrific” piles of garbage.
In another unsettling account from the UK, a tenant reportedly buried 600 beer cans in his home alongside a human-sized pile of excrement.
