21-11-2024 (MANILA) A devastating shooting incident in Lancaster, California has left four people dead, including two Filipino siblings, in what authorities are describing as a complex criminal investigation with no immediate arrests.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, claimed the lives of siblings Janvi Maquindang and Christine Asa-Ca, alongside Asa-Ca’s fiancé Edwin Garcia. Matthew Montebello, Maquindang’s partner, later succumbed to his injuries at hospital. Three dogs were also killed in the attack.
Emergency services responded to the scene at approximately 1 a.m., with firefighters called to extinguish a blaze at the property. Law enforcement officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire or establish a motive for the shootings.
The tragedy has particularly affected two younger siblings who were present during the incident. Asa-Ca had been serving as their legal guardian, adding another layer of complexity to the aftermath of this violent episode.
In response to the tragedy, the Maquindang family has initiated a fundraising campaign to cover funeral expenses and provide support for the surviving siblings. In their appeal, they described the incident as a “senseless act of gun violence” that has left an indelible mark on their family.
“We are grappling with an overwhelming sense of loss, and the daily struggle to cope with their absence is beyond words,” the family stated. While the younger siblings escaped physical harm, the family emphasised the profound psychological impact of witnessing such a traumatic event.
The family’s immediate concern now focuses on supporting the surviving siblings through their grief and helping them rebuild their lives. “The emotional aftermath these young people face is immeasurable, and they require every bit of support we can provide,” the family added.
