12-1-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) The city of Kuala Lumpur was filled with excitement as the Menara Merdeka 118, a remarkable architectural feat, officially opened its doors after almost ten years of construction. This magnificent structure, now crowned as the second tallest building globally, surpassed only by the Burj Khalifa, was inaugurated in the presence of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
Soaring to a majestic height of 678.9 meters, the design of the tower pays homage to the historic moment when Almarhum Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj proclaimed ‘Merdeka’ 64 years ago. The highlight of the opening ceremony was a breathtaking light show that took place at 10:15 pm, accompanied by the resounding cry of ‘Merdeka’ from Malaysia’s first Prime Minister. This magical moment captivated the audience and was widely shared on popular social media platforms like TikTok.
