26-12-2024 (SINGAPORE) A violent altercation on Christmas Eve has led to the arrest of a 24-year-old man who allegedly attacked an acquaintance with a knife, Singapore Police Force reported Tuesday.
The incident, which occurred in the bustling district of Jalan Besar at approximately 3:40 am on Sunday, left a 25-year-old man with serious laceration wounds. The victim was rushed to hospital where he remains in stable condition.
According to police investigators, the attack stemmed from an existing dispute between the two men, who were previously known to each other. Following the assault, the suspect fled the scene, prompting an immediate manhunt by Central Police Division officers.
Swift police work led to the suspect’s capture later that same day at a residential property in Keat Hong Close. In a related development, authorities also arrested a 19-year-old female who allegedly provided shelter to the suspect, charging her with harbouring an offender.
The male suspect faces charges of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, an offence that carries severe penalties under Singapore law. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment or up to 15 years behind bars, along with possible fines and caning.
