18-1-2024 (LONDON) Buckingham Palace announced on Wednesday that Britain’s King Charles III will undergo a “corrective procedure” in the hospital next week after seeking treatment for an enlarged prostate. The statement clarified that the 75-year-old monarch’s condition is benign, and the corrective procedure is scheduled for the coming week. As a result, King Charles III’s public engagements will be temporarily postponed. Initially expected to attend meetings and events in Scotland on Friday, those plans have now been deferred.
A Buckingham Palace source informed NBC News that Charles was eager to share the details of his diagnosis to encourage other men experiencing symptoms to undergo checks, aligning with public health advice.
The announcement coincides with news of Kate, the Princess of Wales, undergoing planned abdominal surgery, leading to her hospitalization for an estimated two weeks. The 42-year-old wife of Prince William, Charles’ eldest son and heir to the throne, will take an extended break from her usual schedule of public appearances and private engagements.
Charles ascended to the throne following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022, at the age of 96, after an unparalleled 70-year reign. In contrast to the iconic televised coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 when she was 27, Charles became king at 73, having previously served as a seasoned royal representative worldwide.
Despite the challenges faced, such as the ongoing controversy surrounding Prince Andrew’s association with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Harry’s book, “Spare,” released last year, the royal family continues to navigate various complexities under King Charles III’s reign.
