18-4-2024 (DUBAI) The recent torrential downpour across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has left a trail of destruction, causing damage to buildings and claiming at least one life.
Unfortunately, some Singaporeans were among those affected by the severe storm, which brought hail to several areas of Abu Dhabi.
Local YouTuber Tan Jianhao took to Instagram on Wednesday (April 18) to recount how he, along with his wife Debbie Soon and socialite Kim Lim, endured a harrowing experience stuck in their car for over eight hours.
Through a series of photos and videos, Tan depicted the intensity of the downpour, showing flooded roads and vehicles stranded in traffic jams.

In an Instagram story shared by Kim Lim, pedestrians were seen wading through ankle-deep waters on the streets. Water had even started seeping into their car, prompting Kim to remark, “Even the car’s floor is slippery!” Debbie echoed the sentiment, saying, “This is a boat now, guys. It’s not even a car anymore.”
The group was en route to the airport for a flight they ultimately missed due to the extended travel time caused by the storm. Kim, quick to react, redirected their driver to a hotel while she rebooked their flights.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Tan Jianhao wrote in his Instagram captions, “Never have I thought I’d be caught in a hailstorm in Dubai. Not sure when we can return but super blessed to go through this together.”
Upon finally leaving the car after eight hours, Kim remarked, “We were stuck in the car for eight hours, it’s like a flight from Singapore to Dubai.”
