28-3-2025 (MANILA) Several juveniles were involved in an assault on a couple aboard a passenger jeepney in Quezon City, Philippines.
Eyewitness Em Sy documented the violent altercation, which occurred around 7 pm on 5 March along EDSA-Balintawak’s northbound lane. The footage shows multiple youths hastily exiting the vehicle whilst assaulting someone inside.
“The jeepney was directly in front of me when the youths boarded. One of them appeared to be wielding what might have been a firearm or pen gun, causing considerable concern for bystanders’ safety”, Sy recounted.
Several passengers evacuated the vehicle during the fracas. Dennis Delos Reyes, who heads the Barangay Unang Sigaw Public Safety team, revealed that whilst the initial pursuit of the assailants proved unsuccessful, five juveniles were subsequently identified on Thursday through the viral footage.
Investigations unveiled a complex web of teenage rivalry, jealousy, and retribution. The assault was reportedly linked to a previous ice pick stabbing incident involving a Malabon-based group connected to the couple.
The apprehended youths, aged 13 to 17, have been referred to the Social Services Development Department. Local authorities are grappling with recurring youth-related disturbances, prompting intensified security measures and strict enforcement of curfew regulations.
“We’ve strengthened our community patrols and have been assigning community service to young offenders”, Delos Reyes explained, whilst urging parents to maintain closer supervision of their children to prevent their involvement in criminal activities.
