30-9-2023 (BANGKOK) Two teenage girls, aged 13 and 15, have been apprehended for their alleged involvement in the death of a 15-year-old schoolgirl. The tragic incident unfolded in Bua Yai district, where the victim was forcibly drowned in a pond. Authorities assert that jealousy was the primary catalyst behind this horrifying event, as the victim had grown close to the boyfriend of one of the accused.
The Chief of Bua Yai Police Station, Pol Col Thatchaphon Songsaeng, and his team conducted a crime re-enactment at Bueng Hua Yai pond in the presence of the two suspects, whose identities are being withheld. The grim event garnered attention from distraught residents who gathered at the scene to voice their condemnation.
The arrest of the two suspects occurred on a fateful Friday, following an examination of closed-circuit camera footage. The footage showed the accused arriving at the victim’s residence in Bua Yai on a motorcycle on Wednesday evening. They subsequently transported the girl to the nearby pond, where her lifeless body was discovered afloat on Thursday morning.
According to the findings of the police investigation, the victim, a Mathayom Suksa 3 (Grade 9) student at a Bua Yai school, became the center of a bitter dispute with the two suspects when they learned of her growing proximity to one of their boyfriends. The confrontation escalated to a horrific extent, culminating in the accused forcibly submerging the victim in the pond, ultimately leading to her death from suffocation.
Amid the profound grief of the victim’s mother and relatives, they conducted a ritual rite at the crime scene, adhering to local customs in an attempt to summon the soul of the departed girl back to her home.
In the coming days, psychologists will join the police investigation to collaboratively question the teenage suspects, unraveling the intricate web of emotions and circumstances that led to this heart-wrenching tragedy.
