18-2-2024 (BANGKOK) In a bizarre incident in front of the Lumpini police station in Bangkok, a Japanese woman was apprehended after stealing a rescue truck from a 50-year-old rescue worker, Pisut Chukliang, at the Wong Wiang Yai roundabout on Sunday morning.
The daring theft took place around 8:10 am when Pisut Chukliang left his rescue truck, unlocked with its engine running and hazard lights on, to provide first aid to an individual. According to an eyewitness, the woman initially attempted to steal a police car but abandoned the idea when she discovered the key was not inside. She then targeted Chukliang’s rescue truck parked adjacent to the police vehicle.
The network of rescue workers was promptly alerted about the theft. A quick response team intercepted the stolen truck and apprehended the Japanese woman at the Wong Wiang Yai roundabout in Thon Buri district, approximately 20 minutes after the incident.
Describing the arrest, rescue worker Lertchai Narintarakul na Ayutthaya mentioned that the Japanese woman was in a state of panic, shouting in Japanese. The rescue team had to secure her hands and make efforts to calm her down. During the arrest, the woman was found in possession of 200-300 baht in cash and a lottery ticket.
The Lumpini police station chief, Pol Col Yingyot Suwanno, stated that the woman is facing charges of theft and illegal immigration due to the absence of visa documentation.
