4-1-2024 (TOKYO) Japan Airlines Co (JAL) revealed on Thursday that the collision involving its flight JL516 with a Japan Coast Guard aircraft on January 2 is expected to result in an estimated operating loss of approximately ¥15 billion ($104.81 million). The airline assured that the incurred loss would be covered by insurance.
As the airline grapples with the aftermath of the incident, JAL is actively assessing the impact of the aircraft loss on its consolidated financial performance forecast, which extends until March 2024. The company pledged to provide immediate disclosure of any pertinent information that may arise during this assessment.
The collision, which occurred at Tokyo’s Haneda airport, involved a JAL airliner and a Japan Coast Guard aircraft. Despite the severity of the incident, all 379 passengers on board the JAL flight managed to successfully evacuate the burning plane. Tragically, five out of the six crew members on the smaller Coast Guard aircraft lost their lives in the crash.
