3-7-2023 (JAKARTA) The Head of Jakarta Transportation Service, Syafrin Liputo, revealed on Sunday that his team is harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to effectively handle congestion issues at 20 intersections across the city.
Liputo explained that AI technology plays a crucial role in traffic monitoring by utilizing data from Google’s extensive database. This information allows the system to dynamically adjust the timings of traffic lights, ensuring a smoother flow of vehicles.
The implementation of an AI-based application further enhances the overall traffic management system. By analyzing real-time data, the application accurately calculates the volume of traffic at each intersection. This valuable insight enables the Jakarta Transportation Service to determine the optimal ratio between road capacity and traffic density, thereby facilitating more efficient traffic management.
Liputo emphasized the ability of AI-powered traffic lights to identify congested areas. Through this advanced technology, the system can prioritize longer green lights for those sections experiencing heavier traffic, thus easing congestion and improving overall traffic flow.
In addition to addressing congestion, the Jakarta Transportation Service is also committed to prioritizing public transportation, particularly TransJakarta buses, at these intersections. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of public transportation services, encouraging more commuters to opt for sustainable modes of travel.
