9-8-2023 (JAKARTA) Deputy of Economy at the Ministry of National Development Planning, Amelia Adininggar Widyasanti, emphasized the importance of economic transformation as a key step towards elevating Indonesia to a high-income country. Speaking at the online seminar “Resisting the Deindustrialization Curse: Towards Green Industry Mainstreaming,” Widyasanti highlighted the role of industrialization in boosting productivity and ensuring long-term economic growth.
She stressed the need for inclusive and sustainable industrialization to align with the goals outlined in the 2025–2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN). Inclusivity entails adhering to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) across the production chain, promoting ethical practices.
As part of the RPJPN, Widyasanti’s ministry has identified priority industries that will shape the country’s economic future. Notably, natural resources downstreaming is highlighted as a significant focus. This encompasses various sectors, including sustainable industries derived from resources like oil palm plantations, seaweed, and cocoa.
Furthermore, the deputy of economy emphasized the significance of basic industries, positioning them as integral support systems for other sectors. The chemical industry, for instance, plays a fundamental role by providing essential raw materials to diverse industries across the board.
