26-12-2023 (JAKARTA) The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train, known as “Whoosh,” has marked a significant milestone by serving over one million passengers since its launch on October 17 this year, according to PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC).
Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi, the President Director of KCIC, highlighted the rapid and positive response from the public as an indication of the growing demand for modern and efficient mass transportation in Indonesia. The achievement underscores the appeal of a mode of transport that not only ensures swift travel but also provides a high level of comfort.
“Reaching one million passengers within only two months serves as proof of the high need for modern and reliable means of public transport in Indonesia,” remarked Riyadi in a statement from Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday, as reported by Antara.
The fast train has garnered public favor, with an impressive average passenger occupancy rate of 90 per cent, showcasing its popularity among commuters. Riyadi affirmed KCIC’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of service to ensure that Whoosh remains the preferred choice for travel between Jakarta and Bandung.
A survey revealed that 48 per cent of Whoosh passengers were previously using private cars for travel between the two cities, indicating the success of the high-speed train in encouraging a shift towards mass transport options.
“The proper facilities and efficient services available have attracted more people to start opting for public transport, like Whoosh, reducing their reliance on private cars,” explained Riyadi.
Notably, since the commencement of operations, the Whoosh high-speed train has operated smoothly without any reported accidents, contributing to its reputation as a safe and reliable mode of transportation.
Expressing gratitude to Whoosh passengers, Riyadi emphasized that their satisfaction serves as motivation for KCIC to continually provide the best services to the public.
To accommodate increased mobility during the Christmas and New Year holidays, KCIC has expanded the number of Whoosh trips from 40 to 48 per day. This proactive measure aims to anticipate the surge in passenger numbers during the year-end festivities.
Riyadi disclosed that the highest number of passengers recorded in a single day currently stands at an impressive 21,500.
