2-10-2023 (JAKARTA) President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has revealed that the fare for the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train (KCJB) will range from Rp250,000 (approximately US$16.09) to Rp350,000 (around US$22.53).
Speaking at the Padalarang KCJB Station in the Bandung District, West Java, President Jokowi emphasized the importance of fast and efficient service and the train’s primary transportation function over considerations of profit and loss.
“We will soon decide on the fare. However, it will fall within the range of Rp250,000 and Rp350,000,” he stated.
Regarding the timing of the fare implementation, President Jokowi directed inquiries to PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), the consortium overseeing the development of the KCJB project.
During the event, President Jokowi also announced that the government had extended the period of free fare for the KCJB service until mid-October 2023.
Yoga Bagus Nugraha, the chief conductor of KCJB, which is known as Whoosh, explained that the high-speed train offers three different classes: first class with 18 seats, business class with 28 seats, and economy class with 555 seats.
President Jokowi officially inaugurated the KCJB, or Whoosh, at Halim KCJB Station in Jakarta. Following the inauguration, the President, accompanied by the First Lady Iriana and his delegation, boarded the Whoosh train for a journey to Padalarang Station, with a travel time of just 26 minutes.
The Whoosh train can reach speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour and operates at a frequency of every 20-30 minutes. This high-speed transportation option significantly reduces the travel time between Jakarta and Bandung to just 36-44 minutes, compared to the usual three hours.
The train stations follow a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) concept to provide an integrated service system that includes various types of transportation modes, a wide range of dining options, and various facilities for passengers.
