2-11-2023 (SHANGHAI) If someone resembles a famous idol and speaks like one, it’s natural to assume they are the real deal. However, that wasn’t the case for a reporter from the Xiaohongshu page Camping Time.
On October 29, the reporter uploaded a video titled “Interviewed Jackson Wang on the streets of Shanghai.” The video featured a street interview about camping, and among the interviewees were Jackson Wang himself and a friend. Interestingly, the reporter failed to recognize the 29-year-old star. In her defense, Jackson appeared relatively lowkey, dressed in baggy plaid trousers, a bomber jacket, and sunglasses. His split-dyed brown and blonde hair was tied up in two buns, and he sported some stubble.
Despite the reporter’s unawareness, Jackson was a good sport during the interview. When asked about camping, he responded, “We’ve been camping before, but not together.” He expressed no particular “special feelings” about camping, while his companion mentioned enjoying the relaxation and sense of freedom it brought.
Taking advantage of the interview, Jackson also promoted his Halloween carnival event, which took place from October 26 to October 31. He even extended an invitation to the reporter. Curious about their professions, the reporter inquired, “What do you two do for a living?”
With a mischievous smile, Jackson cheekily replied, “I’m a singer.” When asked directly if he was Jackson Wang, he smoothly responded, “No, but many people say I really look like him.”
It wasn’t until the next interviewee that the reporter realized her blunder and recognized the popular Got7 rapper-singer. Nevertheless, she took it in stride and gushed about the “enthusiastic citizen” Jackson, finding him “so cute” during the interview.
Netizens found the interaction amusing and speculated about what Jackson might have been thinking. One netizen humorously channeled Jackson, writing, “I don’t know what this is, but I want to promote my carnival.” Another commented, “I don’t know what this is, but I want to join in the fun.” A netizen who was likely also interviewed for the same clip expressed shock at their proximity to the idol, exclaiming, “Oh my god, Jackson Wang and I both accepted your interview! Oh my god!”
