26-5-2023 (Tel Aviv) The future of computers may not require screens, as demonstrated by the groundbreaking innovation of Sightful, an Israeli startup. They have showcased a revolutionary concept of a screenless laptop PC called Spacetop, which allows users to work on a virtual 100-inch display through augmented reality (AR) glasses.
With the Spacetop, Sightful is introducing the world’s first augmented reality laptop PC, potentially ushering in a new era of personal computing. This pioneering technology has the potential to bring augmented reality to the mainstream with its practical applications. The ambitious project aims to redefine the way we interact with computers.
By simply wearing a pair of AR glasses, users can access a virtual workspace equivalent to a spacious 100-inch screen. The concept enables users to carry their workspace in a virtual environment, ensuring privacy and customization.
In terms of hardware, the setup only requires a keyboard unit and the augmented reality glasses. The PC operates on its own operating system called Spacetop OS and offers a relatively modest battery life of five hours. It is worth noting that the device is compatible with WiFi 6 and 5G, functioning just like any other laptop without the need for gesture controls.
The applications of Spacetop seamlessly overlay on the real world, allowing users to stay connected to their surroundings. This innovative feature enables individuals to work in complete privacy, free from prying eyes, regardless of their location—be it at home, on the go, in a café, or at the office. Currently, Spacetop is in the development phase and is being offered to a select group of one thousand testers through an Early Access program, priced at $2,000.
