9-4-2024 (JERUSALEM) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday (April 8) that a date has been set for an Israeli incursion into Rafah, the last sanctuary for displaced Palestinians in Gaza. However, Netanyahu refrained from disclosing the specific date as renewed ceasefire negotiations unfold in Cairo.
In his statement, Netanyahu underscored the ongoing efforts to achieve key objectives, notably the release of Israeli hostages and the decisive defeat of Hamas. He emphasised the necessity of entering Rafah and dismantling the terrorist factions operating there to secure victory.
Netanyahu stated, “Today I received a comprehensive briefing on the negotiations in Cairo. We are persistently pursuing our aims, primarily the liberation of all our hostages and the attainment of a resounding victory over Hamas. This victory necessitates the infiltration of Rafah and the eradication of the terrorist elements entrenched there. It will come to fruition — a date has been set.”
