31-7-2024 (CAIRO) The Israeli military has announced the death of Fuad Shukr, a high-ranking Hezbollah commander, in an air strike near Beirut. The operation, carried out by Israeli Air Force fighter jets, marks a dramatic intensification of the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Lebanon-based militant group.
Shukr, also known as “Sayyid Muhsan”, was reportedly a key figure within Hezbollah’s hierarchy, serving as the organisation’s most senior military commander and head of its strategic unit. Israeli intelligence sources claim he held a position of considerable influence, acting as the right-hand man to Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and advising on wartime operations.
The Israeli military statement, released late Tuesday, asserted that Shukr had been directing Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel since 8th October. In a grave accusation, the Israeli authorities alleged that Shukr bore responsibility for an attack resulting in the deaths of 12 children in Majdal Shams, located in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
This claim, however, has been met with firm denial from Hezbollah. The armed group has distanced itself from the attack, refuting any involvement in the incident that claimed young lives.
