18-5-2024 (TEL AVIV) Israel’s military has announced the seizure of the remains of three hostages held captive in Gaza, including Shani Louk, the young woman whose abduction by Hamas militants sent shockwaves across the nation.
Major General Daniel Hagari, the chief military spokesman, delivered the somber news during a briefing, stating that the bodies of Itzhak Gelerenter, Amit Buskila, and Shani Louk were recovered during an overnight operation carried out jointly by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security service.
The tragic fate of the three hostages dates back to the horrific Nova music festival attack on October 7, where they were reportedly killed, and their bodies were subsequently taken into Gaza. The harrowing footage of 22-year-old Shani Louk being paraded by Hamas militants after her abduction had gone viral on social media, fueling nationwide outrage and anguish.
While the military did not divulge the specifics of the operation or the location where the bodies were found, the news brings a sense of closure to the families of the victims who have endured unimaginable anguish over the past months. However, questions linger regarding the circumstances surrounding their deaths and the ongoing hostage crisis in Gaza.
According to Israeli authorities, approximately 250 individuals were abducted by Hamas during the October 7 attack, with around 100 hostages and over 30 bodies still being held in the besieged enclave
