28-1-2024 (YANGON) A senior official from the Karenni Army has raised alarming accusations, asserting that the Myanmar military has intensified artillery barrages and air strikes on Kayah state, resulting in the destruction of the capital, Loikaw.
According to the source, numerous homes belonging to residents have been engulfed in flames, leading to casualties and injuries among the local populace.
Efforts by the Karenni Army, the People’s Defence Forces, and the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force to extinguish the fires proved futile due to the absence of fire engines, the source revealed.
Nevertheless, the source disclosed a retaliatory ambush by Karenni troops targeting a Myanmar military battalion at a town across the border from Mae Hong Son.
Further aggravating the situation, Myanmar troops have escalated air raids against Karenni soldiers patrolling the area between Doi Yamu and Ban Sompai. Their objective appears to hinder the Karenni Army’s reinforcements from Phasong in southern Kayah State.
