2-12-2024 (FLORIDA) In an unprecedented case that has left Guilford Knight Correctional Center officials scrambling for answers, a remarkable story of conception has emerged from within the walls of a Florida detention facility.
Daisy Link, 29, who is currently remanded in custody on murder charges, has given birth to a daughter under extraordinary circumstances. The father, fellow inmate Joan Depaz, 23, has never had physical contact with Link, yet managed to father her child through an ingenious, albeit unauthorised, method.
The pair, both facing serious murder charges since 2022, developed their relationship through unconventional means. Their romance blossomed through conversations conducted via the prison’s air conditioning vents, accompanied by an exchange of notes and photographs.
“The connection was immediate, even though we couldn’t see each other,” Link revealed during an exclusive jailhouse interview. Their determination to start a family led to an audacious plan that would ultimately succeed against all odds.
Using improvised methods involving bedding fashioned into a makeshift line between their vents, the couple managed to transfer genetic material, which Link then used with a medical applicator to achieve conception. In June, she gave birth to what she describes as her “miracle baby”.
“It’s beyond belief that it actually worked,” Link said, cradling her newborn daughter. “I truly believe everything happened for a reason.”
Depaz, who now resides in a different correctional facility, drew parallels between their situation and divine intervention, highlighting the extraordinary nature of their circumstances.
Miami-Dade Corrections has confirmed that an internal investigation is currently ongoing. Meanwhile, the couple maintains contact through supervised phone calls and video visits with their daughter.
Court documents indicate that Depaz is scheduled to face trial in May 2025, whilst Link’s court date remains pending. Their unprecedented story has raised serious questions about security protocols within the correctional facility.
