26-11-2023 (JAKARTA) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, has recently concluded over a month of treatment and recovery at Singapore General Hospital, according to updates shared on his Instagram account.
The senior Indonesian official fell ill on October 10, expressing unusual fatigue after attending an event. Concerned, his wife took him to a Jakarta hospital for examination. Subsequently, Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean and Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan extended an invitation for Luhut to undergo further recovery and evaluation in Singapore, an offer he accepted.
During his stay, Luhut received visits from Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto, highlighting the significance of his recovery.
Luhut shared on Instagram on November 4 that he had undergone a “post-pain recovery” process in Singapore. Responding to queries about his choice of recovery location, he clarified that his treatment had commenced in Indonesia, and after discussions with family and friends, he opted for Singapore for a more comprehensive evaluation.
In his Instagram post on November 18, Luhut revealed that he was discharged from Singapore General Hospital three days earlier. However, he mentioned ongoing treatment to ensure full recovery before returning to Indonesia. Despite this, he expressed gratitude for being able to resume physical activities and humorously noted that the only change was the need for a hair color touch-up.
Throughout his recovery, Luhut shared glimpses of his struggle to stay away from work, emphasizing his accustomed active lifestyle. He acknowledged the boredom of being in the hospital, expressing difficulty in putting work aside. Family and the medical team advised him to refrain from checking news or having guests initially to facilitate proper rest.
Undeterred by his health setback, Luhut quickly returned to work, even commenting on the 2024 Indonesian presidential election on October 25. In his Instagram posts, he addressed concerns about candidate selections and urged a focus on the sincere intentions of the candidates to advance Indonesia’s vision.
