6-2-2025 (KUALA LUMPUR) A devastating fire in a high-rise residential building has claimed the life of an Indonesian woman in her fifties, authorities confirmed on Thursday.
The blaze, which broke out at Perumahan Awam Sri Terengganu in the early hours of Thursday morning, caused extensive damage to a tenth-floor flat where the victim resided. Emergency services discovered the woman’s body in the bathroom of the property following the incident.
Senior Operations Commander Fire Superintendent E Yogeswaran told reporters that firefighters responded to an emergency alert at 12:38 am. A significant emergency response was mounted, with 20 firefighters and officers deployed from multiple stations including Sentul, Titiwangsa, and Hang Tuah.
“Our teams arrived promptly to find the flat well alight,” Yogeswaran said. “The fire had already caused substantial damage to the property.” Fire crews worked diligently to contain the blaze, which was finally brought under control by 1:30 am. However, approximately 90 percent of the flat was destroyed in the incident.
Medical personnel from the Malaysian Health Ministry who attended the scene pronounced the woman dead. Her remains were subsequently transferred to police custody for further investigation.
