19-3-2025 (JAKARTA) A member of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has been taken into custody following a tragic incident that claimed the lives of three police officers during a cockfighting raid in Way Kanan, Lampung. The suspect is currently being held at the Lampung Military Police Detention Centre for further investigation.
The apprehension of the suspect, preliminarily identified as First Sergeant Lubis, garnered significant attention after footage of his arrest circulated across social media platforms. The video shows the suspect, clad in military fatigues, being escorted calmly from a residence by two Military Police officers whilst onlookers gathered to witness the proceedings.
The fatal incident occurred on Monday, 17 March 2025, at approximately 16:50 local time in Karang Manik Village, Negara Batin District. The three fallen officers – Inspector First Class Lusiyanto, Chief Brigadier Petrus, and Second Brigadier Ghalib – were reportedly shot in the head whilst conducting a raid on what authorities describe as an illegal cockfighting arena allegedly owned by the suspect.
Colonel Eko Syah Putra Siregar, spokesperson for the Regional Military Command II/Sriwijaya, confirmed the suspect’s detention but remained cautious about revealing further details. “We are awaiting the results of the ongoing investigation,” stated Colonel Siregar, declining to specify the number of individuals involved or disclose additional information about the suspect’s identity.
The case has highlighted tensions surrounding illegal gambling operations and raised questions about coordination between military and police forces in the region. The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to this deadly confrontation.
