7-8-2024 (JAKARTA) In North Sumatra, Indonesia, a 45-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his 60-year-old neighbour. The motive behind this gruesome act reportedly stems from the victim’s repeated questioning of the suspect’s unmarried status.
The tragic event unfolded on the evening of 29 July in South Tapanuli regency, North Sumatra. Assistant Police Commissioner (AKP) Maria Marpaung disclosed the details of the case to local media on 31 July, identifying the victim as Asgim Irianto, a retired civil servant.
According to Mrs Irianto’s statement to the police, the alleged assailant, Parlindungan Siregar, arrived at their residence around 8pm, armed with a wooden implement. Without any warning, Siregar allegedly launched into a vicious attack on Mr Irianto.
In a desperate attempt to escape, Mr Irianto fled to the street. However, Siregar reportedly pursued him, delivering a fatal blow to the head. Eyewitness accounts suggest that even after Mr Irianto had fallen, Siregar continued his brutal assault.
The violent episode was eventually halted by local residents who intervened and rushed Mr Irianto to hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries before reaching medical care.
Law enforcement acted swiftly, apprehending Siregar within an hour of the incident. During police interrogation, Siregar allegedly confessed that his actions were motivated by deep-seated resentment towards Mr Irianto’s persistent inquiries about his unmarried status, which he perceived as hurtful jests.
AKP Maria revealed that tensions between the two neighbours had been simmering for some time. Prior disputes had arisen over their respective chickens straying into each other’s coops, further straining their relationship.
