2-12-2023 (JAKARTA) An Indonesian high school student left teachers and fellow students in shock when she gave birth to a baby while sitting for an exam, as reported by Indonesian media.
The incident took place on November 30, with teacher Muhammad Nurchalid supervising the exam. He stated that there were no indications that the student was about to go into labour. “The atmosphere in the classroom was normal; there were no signs that the student was about to give birth,” Detikcom quoted him on December 1.
Shortly after the exam commenced, a commotion erupted, prompting Nurchalid to instruct the students to remain quiet. It was during this moment that he heard the cries of a baby. “I looked and saw one of the students sitting and holding a baby,” Nurchalid stated, with national newspaper Kompas reporting that there was blood on the floor.
Nurchalid immediately sought assistance from a female teacher. The student and her newborn baby girl were subsequently taken to a community health centre for initial treatment. However, due to complications arising from the birth, the student was later transferred to a hospital. The baby, on the other hand, was brought home by her family.
Detikcom reported that everyone involved, including the student’s family, was astonished by the incident, as there had been no signs or indications of her pregnancy.
The school’s headmaster, Mr Sukardi, known by a single name like many Indonesians, revealed that the student did not take any medical leave or miss any classes throughout her pregnancy. “Even her sports teacher stated that she continued to participate in sporting activities like any other student,” he told Detikcom.
