31-12-2024 (JAKARTA) Indonesian celebrity Sandra Dewi was filmed embracing her husband Harvey Moeis during court proceedings in a high-profile corruption case that has gripped the nation.
The touching moment, which occurred during a witness examination hearing at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on 10 October 2024, showed Dewi approaching and embracing Moeis, who was seated in the defendant’s chair alongside his legal counsel. The brief but emotionally charged exchange, during which Moeis was seen tenderly stroking his wife’s hair, even drew a sympathetic smile from one of the presiding judges.
The case reached its conclusion on 23 December 2024, when Moeis was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for his involvement in a massive tin commodities trading corruption scandal that reportedly caused state losses of 300 trillion Indonesian rupiah (approximately $18.5 billion). Chief Judge Eko Aryanto delivered the verdict, finding Moeis “legally and convincingly guilty of committing criminal acts of corruption and money laundering.”
In addition to the prison term, the court ordered Moeis to pay a fine of 1 billion rupiah and 210 billion rupiah in compensation. The sentence, which took into account mitigating factors including Moeis’s courtroom conduct and family obligations, fell significantly short of the prosecution’s recommended 12-year imprisonment term, prompting an immediate appeal from state prosecutors.
During the trial, both Dewi and Moeis’s sister, Mira Moeis, along with Dewi’s sister, Kartika Dewi, appeared as witnesses. Following their testimonies, all three women approached Moeis to offer emotional support through embraces, creating a series of poignant moments in the courtroom.
