23-8-2023 (JAKARTA) Indonesia is set to establish concrete collaboration with African nations through an extensive development plan for the next five years, according to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). The announcement came after a bilateral meeting with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan at Dar Es Salaam State House in Tanzania.
President Jokowi expressed Indonesia’s commitment to fostering cooperation with African countries, emphasizing that “Indonesia will walk the walk to realize concrete collaboration with Africa.” He revealed that Indonesia is finalizing a comprehensive design for the development of Africa over the next five years.
One of the key areas discussed during the meeting was the revitalization of the agricultural sector in Tanzania, with specific plans to rejuvenate the Morogoro Farmer’s Agriculture and Rural Training Center.
In addition to agriculture, President Jokowi reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to enhancing health security in Tanzania by facilitating the export of pharmaceutical products from an Indonesian manufacturer to Tanzania. This move marks the first export of pharmaceutical products to the country.
President Jokowi also expressed his intention to boost investment in the energy sector, highlighting its strategic importance and potential for strengthening cooperation between developing nations.
Furthermore, the President proposed the establishment of a preferential trade agreement (PTA) between Indonesia and Tanzania to optimize bilateral trade. He also suggested creating a bilateral investment treaty (BIT) to ensure the protection and continuity of investments made by both countries.
