8-12-2023 (JAKARTA) The Indonesian government is set to implement a visa-free policy for tourists from 20 countries and regions, including China, in a bid to boost foreign visitor numbers, according to Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno.
The policy, based on considerations such as economic impacts, reciprocity, and security, aims to attract more tourists and enhance the country’s economic value. Uno announced the plan after a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Jakarta, stating that the regulation would be finalized a month before its official implementation.
Indonesia has set a target of welcoming 14 million foreign tourists by 2024, which is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s economy, estimated at up to 200 trillion rupiahs. Uno expressed optimism that the policy would not only increase tourist arrivals but also target high spenders, ultimately boosting the local economy.
